ArfaPOS vs a cash register for your restaurant

An electronic cash register is a step up from handwritten bills. It prints a receipt, holds cash and gives a daily total. A POS system like ArfaPOS does that and then connects billing to the kitchen, the stock room, the delivery riders and the owner's phone.

What a cash register does well

A cash register is simple and sturdy. You press a key for each item, it prints a receipt, the drawer opens, and at night you print a total. There is no monthly fee once you own it. For a bakery counter selling a few dozen fixed items, it can be enough.

Where it runs out

A register knows what was rung up. It does not know what the kitchen cooked, what ingredients were used, or what was spent from the drawer on gas cylinders and vegetables. Menu changes mean reprogramming keys. With two branches, you have two machines and two sets of totals to add up by hand.

Most of all, a register cannot tell you why profit is down. You see sales but not food cost, not expenses, not which items earn the most.

From the counter to the kitchen

With ArfaPOS, the cashier enters the order once. It is tagged walk-in, takeaway, dine-in or delivery and a kitchen ticket prints. On Growth and Business it also appears on a kitchen display where the cooks see orders in sequence with live timers, and a TV order status board can show customers which orders are ready. There is no parchi to lose and no shouting across the counter at rush hour.

Paying and tax receipts

A customer display facing the counter shows the items, the total and a QR code to pay by JazzCash or EasyPaisa. One bill can be split across cash, card and a wallet. On Growth and Business, ArfaPOS sends invoices to FBR and prints PRA e-invoice receipts with a QR code, without a separate FBR machine; on Starter it is a Rs 2,500 a month add-on. See FBR-integrated POS.

Knowing your food cost

On Growth and Business, ArfaPOS links each menu item to a recipe. Say a zinger burger uses Rs 180 of chicken, bun, sauce and oil, and sells for Rs 550. Food cost on that item is Rs 180 out of Rs 550, about 33%. When 400 burgers sell in a week, the system deducts the ingredients for all 400. Compare that with the chicken you actually bought and you see waste or theft quickly. Read more about food cost percentage.

Expenses, suppliers and cash

Daily spending from the drawer is recorded as expenses with categories, protected by a PIN, on every plan. On Growth and Business, purchase orders and supplier ledgers keep track of what you owe. The Business plan adds double-entry accounting with a balance sheet and profit and loss, so the closing figure shows profit as well as takings.

Customers who come back

A register forgets every customer the moment the receipt prints. On Growth and Business, ArfaPOS keeps loyalty points customers earn and redeem, tracks udhaar for trusted regulars, and sends WhatsApp receipts and bulk messages. A deal sent to regulars on a slow Tuesday can fill tables that would otherwise stay empty.

More than one outlet

On the Business plan, all branches sit in one login, with branch reports and stock transfers between locations. See how multi-branch restaurant management works.

Cost and setup

A register is a one-time purchase. ArfaPOS is billed monthly with no yearly lock-in: Starter Rs 4,999, Growth Rs 9,999 and Business Rs 14,999. It runs on a Windows 10 or 11 PC with a USB or network thermal printer, keeps billing offline when the internet drops, and most restaurants go live the same day. Onboarding is free on every plan, and the 7-day trial covers the full Business plan with no credit card.

Taking orders online

A cash register only knows the customer standing in front of it. On the Business plan, ArfaPOS adds your own branded online ordering website on your own address, with delivery, pickup and live order tracking, and orders land on your counter with no commission. Diners in the restaurant can also scan a table QR, browse the menu with photos and order from their phone. See QR menu ordering.

The verdict

Choose ArfaPOS if you run a kitchen, take orders of different types, accept wallet payments, need FBR or PRA e-invoice receipts, want to control food cost and expenses, or have more than one branch. A cash register remains a sensible pick for a small counter selling a short list of fixed-price items, such as a tea stall or a simple bakery counter, where there is no kitchen to manage and the owner only needs a printed receipt and a daily total.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can I use my existing receipt printer?

If it is a USB or network thermal printer, 58mm or 80mm, it can usually be used with ArfaPOS. Share the model with our team during onboarding.

Is ArfaPOS worth the monthly fee over a one-time register?

It depends on size. If recipe-linked stock, expense tracking and staff controls save more than the plan costs, from Rs 4,999 a month, it pays for itself. For a very small counter, a register may be enough.

Does ArfaPOS work for bakeries and retail counters?

Yes. ArfaPOS is built for restaurants, cafés, bakeries, fast food, cloud kitchens and food chains, and Starter suits small shops and single counters.

Can I see sales when I am not at the restaurant?

Yes. The Admin Portal shows sales, expenses and stock from anywhere. The owner's phone app is included on Business and is a Rs 1,500 a month add-on on other plans.
